“Please don’t stop the music…”
At tonight’s Niagara Falls Board of Education meeting, music teachers united to push the issue of music programs having to compete with sports. Enrollment in music, they say, is dropping because of of a new scheduling conflict.

The surprising part of the story for me was learning that these kids actually go to school at 7:30 a.m. Should that even be legal?! I’d be lying if I said one of the best perks of being a journalist wasn’t being able wake up late.
The only solution anyone could think of was lengthening the school day. What do you think of that?
I recently did an article about Lewiston-Porter students shadowing in China. (Read it here.) The students in Tianjin went to school from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. — and they were several years ahead of the Lewiston-Porter students. Makes you think. Would you advocate making kids stay in school an hour longer? Two hours longer? Three?
